Parent Participation in Meetings
You should be included in every meeting regarding your child’s identification, evaluation, eligibility, reevaluation and educational placement. You must receive 10 days of written notice of the meeting from the district. The notice should include:
-Purpose for meeting
-Agreeable place and time to meet
-Those who will be in attendance
You may invite whomever you wish who may positively contribute to the meeting regarding your child.
If you cannot attend, the school may involve you through other ways of communication (telephone, conferences, etc.) The school may make educational decisions without you being present but must keep a record of attempts to schedule a meeting in which you could attend.
If your child is 14 ½ years of age (or younger if the school or you finds it appropriate), the school must provide written notice of a purpose of the meeting to discuss transitional services and your child will be invited to the meeting. If an interpreter is needed, one will be provided.
IEP meetings are held annually to make instructional decisions and accommodations. IEP must be up to date and implemented the first day of the school year. You may re-convene for an IEP meeting at any time during the school year.
