Educational Records
Educational Records:
- District responsible for protecting confidentiality of educational records
- Parent has right to inspect or review any records
- District has to comply with request to view records within 15 days
- Right to view records includes: right to response from district, right to have representative inspect records, right to ask for copies
- School district presumes you have this right unless they have been notified otherwise
- Can only view information relating to your child
- Can not charge fee unless copies are made, less than thirty five cents per page
- District can only release information with parental consent
- School district has to keep log of who looks at records
- Can amend rights if inaccurate or misleading
- District must give answer within 15 days
- If they refused, must provide opportunity for hearing at local level to challenge decision
- Must inform in writing if information is amended
- Parents can comment on records
